This collaboration, with Kristy K Fox, was sparked by a shared desire to play and explore common creative ground.

Conversations centred on peeling back the layers of our artistic processes, raising questions about where our creativity comes from. Uncovering that we were united by a blend of matrilineal anxiety and creativity, we then focused on combining our mediums—photography, collage, layered art, and stitching. It has been a process of co-support and shared momentum, as Kit brought vivid concepts and techniques, while Genèvre offered an invitation to test, play, and explore further.

At the heart of this collaborative activity was curiosity, sparked by our discussions around creative heritage. Passing ideas back and forth, our inquiry deepened as we explored how these tensions could be represented visually in portraits and within the lives of our grandmothers. We played with the metaphor of the family garden—a symbol of the histories we dwell in and observe, and whether we’ve grown into or outgrown these legacies.

The project, Grandma’s Hands, has been built on both physical and metaphorical layers, and inspired technical innovation. From café meetings to home studios, we shared ideas and techniques, blending our styles to explore a new type of visual narrative together. Incorporating AI into our processes to develop the concept, we also expanded our practices and increased our confidence in multi-media collaborations.

Our work is a reflection on how different generations of women navigate life’s pressures—an ongoing conversation between past and present, captured in both images and words.
